Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 30 minutes
Yields: Approximately 2 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 block of extra firm tofu, sliced as thinly as possible without breaking

  • Drizzle of olive oil (or cooking oil of your choice)

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce or coconut aminos

  • 1 tsp 100% maple syrup

  • 1/4 tsp paprika

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/4 tsp onion powder

  • 1/4 tsp cracked black pepper

DIRECTIONs

  1. In a bowl, combine all the marinade ingredients (except for the tofu) and mix well.

  2. Place the sliced tofu on a clean kitchen towel to allow it to dry out. You can also use paper towels or napkins, keeping sustainability in mind. Place another towel on top and gently pat the tofu dry.

  3. Heat a non-stick pan over medium-high heat and lightly coat it with a drizzle of oil.

  4. Once the pan is hot, lay the tofu slices in a single layer. Drizzle the marinade over the tofu. Cook until the tofu turns a light golden color on one side, approximately 5-7 minutes. Flip the tofu and cook the other side until it becomes light golden as well, which should take around 3-4 minutes.

  5. Repeat this process until all the tofu slices have been cooked. Transfer the cooked tofu to a clean plate.

  6. Your vegan tofu bacon is now ready to be enjoyed! Feel free to use it in your favorite dishes or enjoy it on its own.
